![]() ![]() ![]() Dragon Rider? Adorable. The Inkheart trilogy? Brilliant. The weird thing about Cornelia Funke is that she is one of my favorite writers even though I’ve really disliked some of her books. Meanwhile, a group of rebels hides in the woods, desperately fighting the good fight against evil in human form. But before she can return home, she must complete a series of tests. A young girl who still believes in fairy tales travels with her pregnant mother to join her cruel stepfather, and upon arriving meets a mysterious faun who tells her that she is actually daughter of the moon, princess to an underground kingdom. ![]() Honestly, I knew so little about the movie that I mixed it up with “Labyrinth,” a similarly titled but different movie that I also have not seen. I knew that “Pan’s Labyrinth” is a well-known movie, but I’d never seen it and didn’t know much about it (I still don’t, actually). I do have authors I love, though, so when I spotted Pan’s Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun by Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke, I picked it up for Funke and not for del Toro. Even though I love movies, I’m not really a *movie person.* I don’t watch old classics except on occasion (and when prompted to do so) and I don’t know one director from another, even though I’ve been told that the great ones all have distinctive touches. ![]()
